Poha(Beaten Rice) Upma

Flattened rice is a dehusked rice which is flattened into flat light dry flakes.These flakes swell when added to a hot or cold liquid.They are easily digestible form of raw rice .

This recipe uses finely chopped onions and potatoes along with moist poha(beaten rice) to make a quick and healthy breakfast.

Time 15 mins

Makes 2-4


1 Cup Thick Poha(Beaten rice)

1 Small onion finely chopped

3 green chilies finely chopped

2 tbsp finely chopped cilantro leaves

1 small boiled potato(cut into small cubes)

2 tbsp roasted peanut and sesame powder

1 tbsp Lemon juice

For Seasoning:

1/2 tsp Mustard seeds

1/2 tsp Urad dal

1/2 tsp Chana dal

1/2 tsp Cumin seeds

1 Red chili

1 tbsp oil

Salt to taste 

1 tsp Turmeric

Procedure for Washing and soaking thick pohe:

-Wash poha in water and remove water completely and set aside

Procedure for upma:

-Heat a pan with a oil  on a medium flame and then add all the seasoning (except salt,turmeric) allow them to fry until they are lightly brown.

-Then add onions,green chilies,turmeric saute for minute and then add potato,salt,pohe and mix thoroughly.

-Cover  the lid and allow them to cook on low flame for 3-4 minutes.

-Then add cilantro,lemon juice,roasted peanut and sesame powder.Mix well and serve hot.
