Methi Tomato Mixed Dal

This is yet another simple dal but very flavorful with methi leaves(Fenugreek leaves) and tomato.Incorporating Greens in our meals everyday is very healthy.Green doesn’t have to be a salad you can saute them and add to lentils for more flavor.It goes well with pulka,roti ,steamed rice & quinoa.

Serves 4


2 Bunches of Methi leaves(Separate leaves from the stems wash ,cut them and set aside)

2 medium size tomato (chopped)

2 tbsp ginger garlic paste(Minced)

2 green chillies(chopped)

half cup of Mixed dal

salt to taste

pinch of tumeric

1/2 tsp red chilli powder

2 tbsp of lemon juice

1 tbsp cilantro

Cooking Mixed Dal instruction:

Wash and cook in a pressure cooker for 4 whistles .allow it to cool down before you take the whistle off the cooker and mash the lentils with back of the laddle and set a side

For Seasoning:

1/2 tsp mustard seeds

1/2 tsp cumin seeds

2 whole red chilles

Pinch of Hing

1 tsp oil


  1. Heat oil in a pan add all the seasoning allow them to splutter and ginger garlic paste saute till the raw flavor is gone.
  2. Then Add chopped tomato,green chillies,roughly chopped fenugreek leaves ,tumeric,salt,red chilli powder,salt to taste.Cover the pan with lid and simmer for few minutes 5 minutes.
  3. Now add mixed dal and bring it to a boil. Switch of the flame and add lemon juice,top it up with cilantro.
  4. Serve hot with steamed rice or Indian breads.
