My take on the street style snack Masala Puri Chaat recipe. It is prepared from boiled dry yellow peas cooked along with onion tomato gravy and some spices.Served on top of broken puri or corn tortilla chips or potato chips.
Cook time: 20mins
1cup Yellow dry peas(wash, soak overnight and pressure cook until soft)
1boiled potato mashed
1medium onion finely chopped
1tomato finely chopped
1/4cup finely chopped mint and coriander
1/2tsp Garam masala
1/2tsp Red chili powder
1/2tsp Chaat masala
salt to taste
1tsp tamarind juice
1tsp palm sugar or \jagerry
1tsp grated coconut
pinch of turmeric
10 pani puri(break it and set aside)
1/4 cup shredded carrot
1/4cup finely chopped onions
3tbsp finely chopped cilantro
2tbsp tamarind date chutney
1)Heat oil in a skillet on a medium heat add onion, tomato, turmeric, salt, mint and cilantro. Fry for 2mins allow it cool down make it into a smooth paste along with all the spices and set aside.
2)Heat a pan add the boiled peas, mashed potato, tomato onion paste , bring it to a boil.
3)The gravy should not be too thick or too thin. Add water(1/4 cup) for desired consistency. Switch off the flame.
4) Take a serving plate add 5-6 crush puri’s, add peas gravy garnish with onion, cilantro, carrot. drizzle tamarind date chutney.
5)Once assembled serve immediately when the puri ‘s are crispy and gravy is hot.
-I used store bought Pani puri’s . you can also use corn tortilla chips or baked potato chips as well.
