Black eyed peas(lobia) curry

Boiled black eyed peas are cooked in onion and tomato based gravy seasoned with coriander,cumin and chana masala powders ,garnish with finely chopped cilantro.
Serve this piping hot curry with some roti(Indian flat bread) or steamed rice.

Prep time:5mins
Soak time:2-3 hrs
Cook time:20 mins

1 cup black eyed peas
-In a medium bowl wash and soak black eyed peas for 2-3 hrs.Pressure cook for 3-4 whistles and switch off the flame set aside.
1 medium onion paste
1 tbsp ginger garlic paste
2 medium tomatoes paste
salt to taste
pinch of turmeric
1 tsp oil

For seasoning:
1/2 tsp coriander powder
1/2 tsp chili powder
1/4 tsp cumin powder
1 tsp chana masala

-Heat a large saucepan on medium heat  with oil add onion paste,ginger garlic paste,turmeric and salt.Allow it to cook until the raw flavor is gone.
-Add all the seasoning fry for few minutes and mix well cook it covered for a 2 mins.
-Now add tomato sauce and cook until it forms a thick paste.
– Then add the boiled black eyed peas mix well .bring it a boil and mash a couple of spoons of black eyed peas and put it back into the curry.
-Garnish with cilantro and serve hot with roti or steamed rice.
