Chana masala is delicious protein rich curry prepared with onion and tomato gravy and cooked along with some indian spices.It is served as side for various indian flat breads like Roti,Naan,Paratha,Poori or with some steamed basmati rice or Jeera rice.

1 can Chickpeas(wash,rinse,drain and set aside)
For Onion-tomato gravy:
2 medium onion paste
1 tsp ginger garlic paste
3 medium tomato puree
pinch of turmeric
salt to taste
2 tbsp chana masala
1/2 tsp red chili powder
1 bay leaf
1 small piece of cinnamon stick
1 tsp oil
1)Heat a pressure cooker or saucepan on a medium heat with oil add bay leaf,cinnamon stick and saute for a minute.
2)Add onion paste,ginger garlic paste,turmeric,salt and sautee until onion is cooked.
3)Add rest of the spices (chana masala,red chili powder) fry for a min.
4)Add tomato puree and mix well cook until the onion and tomato paste come together.stirring occasionally.
5)Finally add chickpeas,water ,mix well and close the lid of the pressure cooker.Give it 2 to 3 whistles.
6)Turn off the stove allow the pressure to release for about 5 mins and serve hot with roti or steam rice.
