Tomato pulusu(soup)

Tomato pulusu(soup) is prepared by blanching tomatoes and seasoned with sauteed onions,sesame seed powder and Jaggery(Palm sugar).Serve it as a side for quinoa or steamed rice along with some roasted veggies or serve a soup.

cook time:15mins
Serves 3-4

4 Roma tomatoes
1 medium Onion finely chopped
2 green chilies finely chopped
salt to taste
pinch of turmeric
2 tbsp roasted sesame seed powder
1 tsp Powdered Jaggery (Click here for store bought one)

For seasonings:
1 tsp oil
1/2 tsp mustard seeds
1/2 tsp Cumin seeds
Pinch of Hing

-In a pressure cooker add water and tomatoes cook for 1 whistle allow it to cool.Remove the skin of the tomatoes and puree until smooth.Set aside.
-Heat a skillet on a medium flame with oil and add all the seasoning .Allow them to splutter and turn golden brown.
-Add onions,green chilies,curry leaves,salt turmeric fry until onions are soft for about 3-4 mins.
-Add the tomato puree to a sauce pan bring it to a boil.
-Add onion mixture, Jaggery powder,sesame seed powder mix well shimmer on a low flame for about 2mins or until it is thick and consistent.
-Turn off the flame and serve hot with steamed rice or quinoa or eat as is.

-Sesame seed powder gives a thick texture  and nutty flavor and is a great addition for this soup.
– Jaggery  powder gives a right sweetness and elevates the taste.
