A quick and easy Indo Chinese inspired starter recipe. This recipe works great with left over idli’s.
5-6 Idli’s (Cut each idli into 4 pieces and set aside)
1 small onion diced
1 green bell pepper diced
1tsp finely chopped green chilies
2tbsp All purpose flour
1tbsp Rice flour
1 tbsp. corn starch
pinch of black pepper powder
pinch of salt
1/2 tsp tomato sauce
water as needed
-In a small mixing bowl add all the ingredients for the batter and mix well to form a thick to thin paste.set aside.
1tsp soy sauce
1/2tsp rice vinegar
1/2tsp hot and sweet chili sauce
1tsp corn starch mixed with 1tsp water
salt to taste
-Mix everything together and set a side:
Oil for frying
-Heat oil for frying in a large pan, dip idli pieces in the batter and fry until its golden and crispy. Set aside.
-Heat a skillet to prepare sauce. Add oil fry onion, bell peppers, green chilies for few mins.
-Add Sauce and few drop of the water if the mixture is too thick. Bring it to a boil and then add fried idli pieces mix well until the sauce is evenly coated to all the idli’s.
-Garnish with cilantro or green onions and serve hot.
